Suitability is determined by a complex mathematical process which gives priority based on the following factors, each of which are given points: Compatible blood and cross match with recipient Healthy, with no unacceptable medical or surgical risk after donation Stable renal function after donation No transmissible infection or malignancy Acceptable renal anatomy Similar body size to recipient Similar tissue type to recipient, or unusual tissue type that is hard to find a match for Waiting time on the transplant list Distance between the donor's and the recipient's hospital Availability of the recipient The compatibility of the blood group Length of time on the waiting list one point for every day waiting
