WEBMay 23, 2022 · The German work kino is a shortening of Kinematograph, which again comes from the french word cinématographe, coined by the Lumière brothers in the 1890s. The first part comes from the Greek word kínēma, which means "movement", and was most likely inspired by the word for photography.
