To create a custom number format in Excel: Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. On the Home tab, under Number, on the Number Format pop-up menu Format Number box, click Custom. In the Format Cells dialog box, under Category, click Custom. Type the number format code in the Type field or choose a format from the list. Click OK to save the format.
