WEBMay 8, 2009 · Reading Co. Photo Gallery - Steam. Unfortunately, not too many Reading steam locomotives were saved, although four T-1 Northerns (Nos. 2100, 2101, 2102, and 2124) are very well known. The following photos offer some glimpses of Reading steam locomotives in their glory days.
WEBThe Reading T-1 was a class of 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotives owned by the Reading Company. They were rebuilt from thirty "I-10sa" class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type locomotives between 1945 and 1947. Out of the thirty rebuilt, four survive in preservation today, those being numbers 2100, 2101, 2102, and 2124.
WEBOct 25, 2021 · 4-6-2 steam locomotive No. 211. Constructed by the Reading’s shops in 1948, G-3 Pacifics 210–219 were both the road’s last steam power and the very last 4-6-2s built for U.S. service. Their short careers ended on subsidiary Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines in 1955. P. Morris

WEBBuilt Oct. 1945 by the RDG Co., Reading, PA shops using components from former class I-10sa Consolidation (2-8-0) #2044. Last freight revenue service mid-1950s, used on Iron Horse Rambles from 1962 to 1964. Sold 1966 to Steam Tours, operated under many sponsors and railroads. Sold to “Allegheny Railroad,” tour group in OH 1974.
WEBReading 2124 is a preserved class T-1 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive that was built by the Reading Company (RDG) in January 1947, using parts from "I-10sa" class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type locomotive No. 2024, which was originally built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in December 1924.
WEBReading 2100 is the prototype of the T-1 class 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotives constructed in September 1945 for use by the Reading Company (RDG).
WEBWhen you step onto a passenger coach pulled by Reading & Northern’s newly reconstructed 2102, you are transported back in time when these steam engines were a primary form of transportation. Steam Engine No. 2102 is one of only four remaining in the world and the only one that is operational today.
