Isn't DC a steady current? Briefly, no. DC current is one-directional, but need not be steady. The current varies if the load varies. Depending on the voltage source, the DC voltage can vary as well, which in turn varies the current. In the simplest case, V=IR. If V is constant, then as R varies, I also varies. R lower, I higher (and vice versa).
