An abstract storage location paired with an associated symbolic name. Used for calculations, for storing values for later use, in decisions and in iteration. A named container for a particular set of bits or type of data (like integer, float, string etc...). A place in a computer’s memory where it stores information that changes. A named memory address that holds a value. The value held in a variable can (and usually does) change as the program is running. A variable's name is known as an identifier.
